Types of Dental Technology

DIAGNOdent® Cavity Detecting Laser - For the utmost in accuracy, this device aids in the diagnosis of decay, or cavities. The handheld tool, which is similar in shape to that of a pencil, emits a specific wavelength of light energy. When directed onto the patient's tooth, the DIAGNODENT® will make an audible noise and give a digital reading indicating the degree of infection into the tooth.  The depth and amount of caries are indicated on a monitor for the dentist to record and evaluate. Early detection of cavities allows the dentist to treat them right away, keeping the mouth healthy and problem free.

Sapphire Diode LaserSapphire® Soft Tissue Laser by DenMat - This handheld, portable laser system is utilized for a number of soft tissue procedures. From periodontal treatment to cosmetic gum contouring, the device emits a stream of light energy to gently and precisely remove gum tissue or eliminate bacteria from underneath the gum line.

The Sapphire® laser is effective in treating fever blisters and aphthous ulcers as well. There are a number of reasons why sores or lesions may form on the soft tissue areas of the mouth. Laser treatment for these conditions is quick, safe, and virtually painless. Additionally, healing times are significantly reduced.

Frenectomies are also performed using the cutting-edge soft tissue laser. The frenum is found in two places in the mouth - it is the piece of muscle tissue that connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth or between the upper lip and the gums. Removal of a portion of the frenum may be necessary if it is too long and is obstructing a person's speech. The procedure is safe, straightforward, and requires less healing time than traditional surgical removal.

Digital X-rays and patient records - For greater efficiency, all patient X-rays and records are stored electronically. Using advanced computer technology, the dentist can review images of the patient's mouth right on his computer screen. He can make notes and keep accurate records of everything pertaining to the patient's dental health. The dentist can even show the patient images of his or her mouth on screen for a more thorough understanding of what the dentist is seeing.  Our digital x-rays use 90-95% less radiation than traditional x-rays so they are safe and effective.
